Reaching for the stars
but the clouds
won’t let me

“You never get it, do you? You dumb girl!”
Nolwazi heard her mother’s high-pitched voice ringing in her mind as if reliving
that moment all over again. A single tear slid down from her beady eyes, and
another, and another, until soon, a steady stream of salty tears flowed its way
down her pale cheeks, releasing the sadness and sorrow that has been held inside
of her all this time but still she did not make a sound. Her whole body started
trembling. She took a deep breath as if exhaling all the pain out, trying so hard to
steady her shaking hands.
She opened her eyes.
“I’m sorry, this was a mistake,” Nolwazi said hastily standing up running towards
the door. “Nolwazi stop!” Dr Msibi tried to stop her but it was too late. Upon her
way to the door, she turned back and said; “I shouldn’t have come here”.
Still crying, she shut the door so hard and ran out.
