You need sleep to rest you, but
as humans we are naturally active beings, and
therefore we require exercise to energise us. It
is important to find the form of exercise that
resonates with you, and perform it regularly.
I find it is best to work it as the ‘rule of 3’.
Each week you should do three different
types of exercise- repeated at frequently as
you would like to. These should be divided
up as:
performing one type of exercise that you
really enjoy- this is something that will relax
you, which you will have fun with, but does
not strain your body too much both mentally
and physically- the aim of it is to simply enjoy
being in your body and moving it.
The second exercise type that you should do
is something that really challenges you- both
mentally and physically. This may be learning
a new sport, or pushing your body’s limits
with an already known sport- either way,
you should end it feeling exhausted! Finally,
the third exercise that should be done is
something that you are able to master. This
should be of a fairly difficult level, but you
are able to set achievable goals for yourself
and should bring a sense of accomplishment
when you do them- for example running 3km
without stopping, or setting baseline exercises
with which you can track your fitness levels
on a weekly basis.
When doing these exercises it is important to
remember to include a rest day in the week
to allow your body to heal. Your number one
priority must always be taking care of your
body in order to be the person you want to be
on a daily basis.
