Gcinekile Zwane She could hear Basil’s fruity voice in her head as if he was reading the letter to her. It was like he was there with her. Her mind was moving through a Kaleidoscope of euphoric memories-memories she shared with Basil in the last 12 months they had been together. Oh, what a wonderful year it had been! Looking back, she recalled the time they had a weekend away in Durban. It was her first time out of Swaziland. She marvelled at that thought. She went on to think of how Basil had always been her biggest support system. He completely understood her. She was wholly herself when she was with him. Basil was an electrical engineer student in South Africa and was Professor Lukhele’s cousin. Most of all, he was the apple of Nolwazi’s eye. Everyone could see the radiant smile on Nolwazi’s face. The way she smiled expressed the joy in her heart. 86
