As the year draws to a close, this issue of BAMOS feels like it combines the best of what our community has to offer. Articles in the December issue include student research, outreach activities, interdisciplinary science that has direct community relevance, and recognition of the incredible efforts made by many of our members. Congratulations to the 2017 AMOS award winners, and the newly appointed AMOS Fellows. Now you can really say you are FAMOS! Many thanks to everyone who submitted articles this year, from opinion pieces to regular submissions. A massive thanks must also go to the amazing editorial team. Damien, Blair, Diana, Melissa and Sarah have been patient and vigilant in the development of each issue, and we’re lucky to have them. Plus, as always, absolutely nothing would be done without the support and talent of the irreplaceable Jeanette Dargaville. Thank you Jeanette! I’m sad to say that this will be my last issue as BAMOS Editor. OK, I have said that once before, but this time I mean it. I’ve been honoured to be back at the helm this year, contributing to the new format of the Bulletin and making some changes to the Author Guidelines (check out the back pages!). But it’s time to let new hands take the wheel. If you think those hands could be yours, see the position advertisement on Page 5. I promise you won’t regret it. Wishing you and yours all the very best for the Christmas period and may good things come in 2018.
