Great examples of this include : l Using your bike or walking for key local journeys , make it your thing . l Embracing ‘ Secret Santa ’ to reduce the need for huge spending at Christmas ( this has been a major positive change in our family with less stress , less cost and less waste ). l Make and bake things as presents , we promise you they are more memorable . l Put ‘ Bags for Life ’ or a rucksack in your car to avoid carrier bags . l Make soups from left over food , make stock and use leftover veg for yummy soups . l Batch cook food to reduce waste and freeze for the busy days . l Take a flask or drinks bottle to reduce plastics , cups and costs when out and about ( average coffee cost is £ 2.40 , so it soon mounts up ). l Make a picnic part of your day out and reduce costs and packaging . l Buy British and local reduce the food miles . l Give nature a home in your garden with bug houses and bird feeders and a hole in the fence for hedgehogs . l Pick up litter when you are out and about , it only takes a minute . l If you have kids involve them in greener things like making bird feeders or recycling or upcycling – it can be a fun family activity .
