“Do you want me to search online for information about a substitute?” Jane offered.
“No, I want you to do some of these dishes. They’re piling up and I’m doing all the work here.”
“You should take a break. You’re getting cranky,” Jane said. “I've been doing my share of work. I’m making data tables and charts and doing research online!”
“Research online? More like research on-rear,” Louisa retorted. “I not only cooked the pancakes, but I’ve swept the floor and cleaned the stove. The only time you got out of the chair is when I’ve had pancakes ready to eat and then you sat while you ate them.”
“Keep it up, Lou, and I’ll get out of the chair and come over there!”
“And do what? You’re too slow to catch me even if you weren’t too lazy to try. Be sure to record on the tables and charts that you ate the entire last batch of pancakes.”
“Don’t call me lazy. Name-calling is childish,” Jane whispered. “You’re going to wake up Mrs. Fields. Keep it down.”
“If you want me to stop calling you lazy, then don’t call me Lou!”
“Lou! Lou!” Jane whispered.
“Please stop.” Louisa glared at her cousin and tried to look mean, but Jane wasn’t backing down.
“Lou Lou!”
