BALWIN UMHLANGA ROCKS RUN:
DANCING THROUGH THE RAIN
On the morning of 15 November 2025, a gentle drizzle settled over Umhlanga Rocks, but not even the rain could dampen the energy of the 3,000 runners gathered outside Oceans Mall.
With anticipation buzzing in the air, participants lined up for the 5km, 10km, and 21km races, ready to embrace whatever the day had in store.
The route treated runners to the very best of Umhlanga’ s coastline: sweeping views of the Indian Ocean, golden sands stretching endlessly beside them, and the iconic Umhlanga Lighthouse standing proud against the misty horizon. Every footstep echoed the beauty of KwaZulu-Natal’ s shoreline.
Many might have expected the rain to send runners home early, but in true South African fashion, the spirit only grew. Instead of retreating, the finish area transformed into an impromptu celebration. Cheers rang out, shoes splashed in puddles, and before long, the run had evolved into a full‐blown disco in the rain.
