NEIGHBORHOODS
Home to Broadway musicals, classic plays, magic shows and high-energy concerts, downtown is a microcosm of the greater Baltimore art scene. You’ ll find performances around every corner, with venues sandwiched between office buildings, hotels and high-rise apartments. CFG Bank Arena is the place to see top musical artists— Blake Shelton, Sabrina Carpenter, Mariah Carey and the Wu-Tang Clan have all headlined here in the past year.
More of a theater person? Check out modern twists on the Bard’ s works at Chesapeake Shakespeare Company, straight-from-NYC musicals and ballets at the Hippodrome Theatre, and new and classic plays at Everyman Theatre. There’ s also Arena Players, the oldest continuously operating African American community theater in the country, whose productions uplift Black

experiences. For a spookier outing, head to Poe’ s Magic Theater inside the Lord Baltimore Hotel, where some of the best magicians in the Mid-Atlantic show off their sleights of hand, card tricks and more. Many of these venues are located within the Bromo Arts District, an 11-block stretch along Howard Street that houses more than 30 galleries, music venues and performance spaces.

Mount Vernon
Don’ t let the stunning 19thcentury mansions, Gothic churches and towering Washington Monument fool you: Mount Vernon
contributes as much to Baltimore’ s performing arts scene as it does to its history. Here, you’ ll find Baltimore Center Stage, which is committed to advancing accessibility and diversity in theater; Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, the striking convex home of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra; and The Lyric, a concert hall that hosts traveling ballets, comedians, orchestras and more. There’ s also An Die Musik, a cozy jazz and folk listening room, and Le Mondo, an artist-owned venue that offers dance, theater, music and film programming.
