Wilkinson and Stockett take top honors at Deerfield Golf Club for Trusted Choice Big I
Canton , Mississippi – It was nother great Mississippi Junior Golf Association tournament hosted by Deerfield Golf Club . Seventy-four junior golfers began the tournament with 41 males and 11 females eligible to qualify for the National Championship to be held at Del Paso Country Club in Sacramento , California .
Great play defined the nine-hole division this week . In the Division D , 10-12 year old girls , Emerson Blair , of West Point , came in first by shooting a 46 in the final round for an 88 total . Avery Weed came in as runner-up finishing the tournament with a final round of 47 .
For the boys Division D , 10-11 year olds , William Marshall of Madison came in first with a one-hundred total . Mason Shoemaker finished up in runner-up for the tournament with a 127 18-hole total .
For the Division E , nine and under division , Malone Richardson took a strong lead after the first round with a 46 and 44 following that . Richardson was awarded the Division E championship . Malone was followed by runner-up ,
Prentiss Furr , who finished with a 102 final score for the two nine hole rounds .
For our one Division E Girl , Allie Myers , it was an easy win but she still gave it a good fight . Allie improved by one stroke from the first nine holes , shooting a 41 in round one and a 40 in round two .
In the girls division , Blair Stockett of Jackson played consistently both rounds to earn a spot to the National Championship . Stockett won by one stroke over Hannah Levi of D ’ Iberville . Stockett and Levi both played great and finished seven and eight over , respectively .
For the Division C , 12- 13 year old boys , Hayes Smith of Como won his first tournament by four strokes . Smith finished 13 over with Jacob Germany and Carson Butler finishing tied for runner-up .
For the boys 14-15 Division B , Simms Abney took the lead in the final round posting 71 , the low score for this division . Abney finished at even par for the tournament and earned a place to the National Championship for coming in third for the overall championship .
Brookes Hudson , of Tupelo , finished as the runner-up posting a 151 total .
In the boys 16-18 Division , Brice Wilkinson won in a one hole playoff over Griffin Agent . Wilkinson and Agent were tied at one-under for the tournament . They proceeded to the 10th hole where Wilkinson won with a birdie . Coming in third place was Matthew Scoville .
Wilkinson , Agent and Abney earned a place to the Trusted Choice Big I National Championship . Congratulations to all juniors who competed this week and best of luck on the remainder of the 2016 golf season .
The MGA offered many thanks to Deerfield Golf Club for opening its doors to the golfers of the future as well as to Golf Course Superintendent Bryan Deweese and the staff at Deerfield Golf Club including Golf Professional Billy Allen for their hospitality throughout the week .
