CPR CERTIFICATION EXTENDED

The State Board of Dentistry ( Board ) will consider any CPR certification that was in effect on March 17 , 2020 , to remain in effect through December 31 , 2020 . In 2021 , individuals will be required to comply with existing regulations and use board-approved providers of “ hands-on ” certification training . CPR recertification may not be conducted entirely through on-line or computer-based training . Licensees will need current certification in infant , child and adult CPR completed with the hands-on training component to renew their dental license in March 2021 .
The waiver of the requirement that CPR certification be obtained via “ hands-on ” or “ contact ” methods applies only to individuals needing to obtain new CPR certification as a condition of initial licensure or reactivation . In that case , the board will accept completion of online CPR certification for those individuals who need to obtain new CPR certification during the COVID-19 pandemic .
IN-PERSON CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS WAIVED
On March 22 , Governor Wolf issued a ruling suspending the requirements for dental licensees ( dentists , hygienists and EFDAs ) to obtain a specific amount of continuing education ( CE ) credits as in-person CE in order to reapply for licensure next year . This applies to courses taken between April 1 , 2019 and March 31 , 2021 .
• Licensees may fulfill their CE requirements through online and self-study . Please note that these licensees must be compliant with the State Board of Dentistry ' s other requirements that :
• Courses must be in approved subject areas ;
• Offered by board-approved sponsors and
• Taken between April 1 , 2019 and March 31 , 2021 .
PDA ’ s online CE courses are available anytime . Visit www . padental . org / calendar and click on the Prerecorded Events tab to review the list of online CE courses . Many courses are complimentary for PDA member dentists .
Non-dentist team members will need their own record in PDA ’ s database before they can access PDA ’ s online CE . Email PDA with the name , mailing address and unique email address for each dental team member interested in completing PDA ’ s online CE courses .
WAIVER OF LICENSE REACTIVATION REQUIREMENTS FOR DENTISTS , HYGIENISTS AND EFDAS
Governor Wolf approved the Department of State ’ s request to waive regulations and fees for licensed professionals who wish to reactivate their licenses . The department has also waived some of the administrative requirements on the reactivation application , such as notarized affidavits .
