Course structure
The course develops through two themes :
A . PSYCHOLOGY SEQUENCE These studies will address core areas of psychology , including the theoretical and empirical basis of our current understanding of human psychology , brain function and evidence-based approaches to psychological intervention . Building a strong foundation in your understanding of psychology will enable you to appreciate the major challenges in psychology today and in the future .
B . PSYCHOLOGY IN PRACTICE AND SOCIETY This is the component of the course where you will choose one of three streams :
• Applied psychology , gender and diversity
• Applied psychology and globalisation
• Mental health and wellbeing .
These streams will enable you to understand and apply a coherent body of knowledge to a range of contexts for the benefit of society in general . You ’ ll also complete a professional practice unit .

1 Free electives apart from Psychology . 2 A second-year Arts unit is possible . 3 Select from the list of electives offered by the School of
Psychology or from the list of recommended electives . 4 Stream-specific electives : PSY3250 Positive psychology ( S1 ), PSY3130 Health psychology ( S1 ), PSY2112 Organisational psychology and workplace wellbeing ( S2 ) or PSY3120 Introduction to counselling ( S2 ). Students in the Applied psychology , gender and diversity stream will need to choose two of the four listed units .
