• Wander through art galleries for some culture before stopping at the sweet shops for homemade fudge to satisfy that sweet tooth.
• Head to the Clarens Dinosaur Tours for a fun fossil hunt, because dinosaurs never go out of fashion.
• Try river rafting on the Ash River if the kids are older, or go for a pony ride on nearby farms.
Foodie stop: Treat the family to pancakes at one of the local cafés, followed by a legendary milkshake from the village square.

Ensconced in the misty mountains of Limpopo, Haenertsburg is like Narnia with warmer weather and fewer wardrobes. It’ s cool, green, and uncrowded, making it perfect for nature-loving families.
What to do:
• Explore the enchanted Woodbush Forest( seriously, it looks like fairies could live there).
• Pack a picnic and hike the Louis Changuion Hiking Trail, an easy route even for little legs.
Matjiesfontein
• Go fishing or boating at the nearby Ebenezer Dam.
Local flavour: Don’ t leave without trying a proper farm breakfast in one of the village cafés – you’ ll need the fuel for all that adventuring.

If your kids think history is boring, Matjiesfontein is about to blow their tiny minds. This tiny Karoo town is a perfectly preserved Victorian village with a sense of humour and plenty to explore.
What to do:
• Hop aboard the red double-decker bus tour – it’ s delightfully weird and full of random trivia.
• Visit the Transport Museum( train-mad toddlers will lose their minds).
• Play old-school games on the hotel lawn or just enjoy the surreal time-warp atmosphere.
Where to stay: The Lord Milner Hotel is historic, comfortable, and ghost-free( as far as we know), and kids are welcomed with open arms. �
