Breaker 10.4 Interview
2
The night started off with a mishap where I was attacked by Rob Toothill's (Lead Guitarist and backing vocalist of Breaker 10.4) guitar locking strap which decided to free itself after three minutes of pulling and tugging and proceeded to smack me right in the face and knock me from the Laney Amplifier that I was rested upon to get a better sound for the interview. Mikey Robson Singer and Songwriter of the two part Acoustic Rock band lives in what is quaintly known as the Posh side of Armley, a place full of grey buildings, thieves and the illiterate. Both seem nervous been that this is their first ever interview while Mikey cracks jokes. "I bet these questions won't effect the price range" he says as he reels off obvious questions that he assumes I will be asking, but the task for tonight is to put them on the spot and make them think of themselves and what they're music exults. The music of Breaker 10.4 is quite unlike many other acoustic guitar duets on the scene at the moment, for one thing they solely write they're own material which has been a trait for the past five years in which they have been performing, recording and writing with each other, after a few moments of tuning up their guitars we get started.
What sets your band apart from other bands on the Leeds music scene?
Mikey: I'd say that we're pretty self sustained, we can write songs for forty fifty people all on our own.
Rob: We have two very different aspects to us really, there is the recording where we can handle the orchestration and then when we play live it's a different aspect altogether because there's only two of us
Mikey: We do a lot of harmonies then like other bands and we try to treat each other as equals.
Rob: Our influences come from Classic Rock, heavy metal and in some aspects even Abba
Well That's a big bridge.
Rob: Yeah but maybe you should leave the Abba influence out of it.
Mikey: What is interesting is the age difference
Rob: Yeah not many bands have the same age difference as us.
Well that's unique
Rob: Oh me?
Yeah I'm doing this piece on you not him.
Mikey: Is this getting printed?
Yeah
Mikey: Well fuck you then.
