Pointers to keep your family safe
1 . Lather on the sunscreen – frequently - to prevent painful sunburn and to minimise your risk of skin cancer in later years .
2 . Keep the mozzies at bay with citronella candles or any insect repellent to avoid nasty bites .
3 . Stay hydrated to help your body regulate its temperature and to avoid dehydration .
4 . Be alert around water . This is especially important for children because drowning can occur in only a few seconds . 5 . Be aware around the braai as it poses the potential for burns , especially to unsupervised children .
6 . Watch out for fireworks around New Year ’ s Eve . While they are beautiful to watch , make sure that you are far enough away to avoid injury
7 . Stay up to date on weather warnings like lightning and flood reports and change your plans accordingly .
8 . Work out safely . Avoid working out in the afternoon , because temperatures can soar particularly between 12 midday and 3pm . Drink water to avoid dehydration .
9 . Protect your eyes by wearing sunglasses that block 99-100 % of both UVA and UVB radiation . Encourage your kids to do the same . 10 . Wear a hat . 11 . Keep your energy levels up with healthy and tasty snacks like fresh fruits and vegetables , as well as nuts .
