Hot tips to keep you warm

The bitterly cold season is here ! There are a few simple things you can do to keep warm in winter , which don ’ t involve cranking up the heater .
Become a baker Just because you have vowed to save on electricity and use a heater sparingly doesn ' t mean your home has to be cold . Luckily , there is another heat source : The oven . Using it will heat up your kitchen quickly . Plus , you ’ ll be left with a fresh-from-the-oven batch of chocolate chip cookies or a hot meal to combat any residual chills .
Do some laundry There ’ s nothing like clothes fresh out of the dryer to keep you warm . Use the freezing temperatures as your excuse to finally do that pile of laundry , then bask in the post-dryer warmth .
Wrap up warm Dress in layers and wear a hat , gloves and scarf . Clothes made from wool , cotton or fleecy fabrics are warmest . When you ' re indoors , get cosy with warm blankets and wear warm socks and slippers to keep your feet snug . While sleeping , ensure you stay toasty by wearing pyjamas and bed socks to keep your feet from getting cold overnight .
Break out the hot water bottle Skip the electric blanket , which will crank up your electricity bill , in favour of a more low-tech bed warmer : The hot water bottle . Or you can also heat a happy hugger , in the microwave , to warm up your bed before you get in .
Keep the cold out Close doors and use door sweeps and keyhole covers to block drafts . Try heavier curtains to keep the heat in .
Get moving Working out in the cold may be the last thing you feel like doing this winter but it will make you feel better and warm you up . Exercise will also give you a rush of endorphins , boost your mood , gets the blood pumping around your body and increases our core body temperature , which will warm you all over .
