Fully completed, the abnormal
load is bound for Teesside
ISO9001 and CE marked product
accreditation is also in the bag. The staff
have worked very hard to achieve these
accreditations over the last six months
and have gained an execution class three
certificate.
“When I was younger I didn’t want to go into the family business.
I feel much differently now. I’ve inherited John’s competitive nature
and I want to build the business and make it a success.
”
The firm is currently working on an ongoing,
long-term project for Nissan at Washington,
for main contractors Sir Robert McAlpine.
That job involves strengthening work on its
existing building, working on the factory
during shutdown over weekends.
“We want to maintain where we are on the
site services side of the business, get more
clientele on board long-term and continue to
grow and to take on more staff to manage
the demand.
And as well as completing the erection of
the main structure for Finley on the Hitachi
development, SCH is hoping to win the
contract for the installation of the staging
steelwork which provides access to the
high-speed trains when they are being
manufactured.

“One of them was a really complex job for
Lucite in Billingham, says Gary.
”
“It is a 45-metre tall chimney stack, which is
three-and-a-half metres square. The structure
was fabricated and galvanised in pieces,
then we had to build it up piece-by-piece
into a 30-meter section and transport it to
Billingham at 6am on a Sunday morning.
“It was an execution class 3 CE marked
structure, so it was a fairly complex project,
and a lot of quality control measures were )ɕ
