6 | www.aycliffetoday.co.uk NEWS BRIEFS YOBS BRICK MINIBUS Newton Aycliffe police are appealing for information after a pair of yobs hurled a brick through a minibus window while approaching traffic lights. The incident happened at the A167 junction of Central Avenue at around 8.10pm on Monday 6th January. The white LDV minibus had been approaching the lights when two young males threw the brick through the passenger side door window. “Luckily the driver of the vehicle was not hurt and no passengers were on board at the time,” said a police spokesman. MAN, 26, CHARGED AFTER BIKE THEFTS A 26-year-old man has been arrested and charged with handling stolen goods after police recovered two bikes in Newton Aycliffe. In his blog on Aycliffe Today, Neighbourhood Police Team Sergeant Mark Edwards revealed how officers made a number of arrests in relation to a crime spree that happened on the evening of Monday 20th January, through to the early hours of Tuesday 21st. Two bikes stolen from Hatfield Road were recovered and three suspects were identified. Sgt Edwards wrote: “One, a 26-yearold male, has been charged with handling stolen goods. He will get his day in court very soon.” JAIL SENTENCE FOR DRINK DRIVER A Newton Aycliffe man was handed a suspended jail sentence after he was caught drink-driving twice within the space of five days. Malcolm Paterson, 51, of Pemberton Road, admitted two drink driving offences and one count of possessing cannabis when he appeared at the town’s Magistrates’ Court. He was banned from driving for three years and was given an eightweek jail sentence, suspended for a year. He was also fined £165 plus £85 costs and an £80 victim surcharge. NEWS AycliffeToda
