Finley Structures
appoint boss
Family-run construction company
Finley Structures has appointed a
former Severfield Rowen director as
its new operations manager.
The firm, based on Aycliffe
Business Park, has been boosted
with the high-profile addition of Jim
Graham in what is a major move
forward for the 13-year-old firm.
Jim, originally from Newton
Aycliffe, spent 22 years with leading
Thirsk-based steel fabricating group
Severfield, latterly as operations
director.
And he admits to getting his
“passion” back as Jim relishes the
task of helping fast-growing Finley
Structures to “the next level”.

Aycliffe a
‘jewell’ – boss
The new managing director of
Business Durham – the business
arm of Durham County Council – has
told Aycliffe Today he sees Newton
Aycliffe as a “jewel in the crown”.
Goon succeeded Stewart Watkins,
who retired in the summer after more
than 30 years with the organisation
previously known as the County
Durham Development Company
(CDDC).
“Clearly it’s a crown jewel for
County Durham,” said Dr Goon.

Journalist joins
Aycliffe agency
Following an internship with a
national fashion magazine, an
ambitious young journalist has
landed her first job on Aycliffe
Business Park.
Multi-talented Sarah Burns, 21, has
joined Newton Aycliffe-based Au Fait
Business and Marketing Services,
one the brightest young marketing
agencies in the region, boosting
its growing team to five at its HUB
offices on Welbury Way.

Stiller going the extra length
as turnover tops £10.5m
Stiller Warehousing and
Distribution, based on Aycliffe
Business Park, is going the extra
length after seeing turnover jump
by 20 per cent to £10.5m this year.
The family firm has in the last six
months invested in a fleet of state-ofthe-art vehicles, between them worth
more than £1m, to cope with healthy
recent growth.
They include four extra-long trailers,
which are 15.65 metres in length –
two metres longer than the previous
maximum length of trailer allowed on
the road.
Stiller has also invested in new
18-tonne rigid vehicles, conventional
trailers, urban artics and six brand new
Mercedes tractor units.
The company has taken on 15 new
members of staff this year, increasing
its workforce to 115.
Turnover is expected to top £10.5m
at the end of the current financial year,
