“ With the work we do with pupils who require wheelchair accessible , there is a good deal of job satisfaction , when you ’ re picking these canny bairns up and they ’ ve got big smiles on their faces .”
Nev says getting older and looking for a better work-life balance , as well wanting to give some extra focus to his job as a local councillor , has also given him cause to rethink the business strategy for J & C Coaches .
“ I feel more at home driving a minibus these days ,” he admits .
“ We have a good client base and we do well with our existing customers .
“ Sadly , we will have to say goodbye to a few as the business moves in a different direction , and we have enjoyed working with them .”
These customers include a regular group of Sunderland fans they take to matches , a group of lady golfers and a local councillor who runs a regular day out for the local community . “ It will be sad to see them go ,” says Nev . “ But as we move towards our 50th year , we are consolidating the business , with a smaller , more modern fleet that is 50 per cent wheelchair accessible .
