Support Groups
MND Scotland currently has ten support groups in operation providing opportunities for people affected by MND to meet others in the same situation, provide support and exchange information.

M
ost of the groups meet on a bi-monthly basis with either a buffet or light refreshments. The sessions are informal social gatherings with people sitting chatting to one another and occasionally we will invite guest speakers. There is no charge for this service. Support group dates until the end of the year are as follows:

Aberdeen
The Rubislaw Church Centre, 1 Beaconsield Place, Aberdeen AB15 4AB at 7pm (please do not arrive before 7pm as the centre is closed between 5pm – 7pm). Monday 26 August Monday 11 November – guest speaker on speech and language

“The thought of attending a support group made me really nervous, I didn’t know what to expect, but I went along because my husband Gordon who has MND was interested in what it would be like. I now go regularly with Gordon, my daughter Vicki, and oth er family members. The chance to have a bit of a laugh with others at meetings and not feel judged about our concerns is really nice.”

Virtual Support Groups
MND Scotland is currently researching the possibility of having virtual support groups either for people living in the remote areas of the country or who are unable to attend local groups. The likely methods of communication include telephone conferencing, skype or online forums. Further details of this will be published later this year in both the magazine and our website.
