Thanks to continual avionics and powerplant upgrades, the Dolphin continues in Coast Guard service, with the MH-65D (below) serving as the latest variant. The Dolphin seen here is painted to honor the heritage of the original HH-65A scheme from the early 1980s. This 'centennial bird' is based at Coast Guard Air Station Traverse City, Michigan. The MH-65D will be followed by the MH-65E 'Echo' model that will incorporate a glass cockpit and digital flight controls. The Echo is expected to join the Coast Guard's fleet in 2017.
