UH-1H“ Huey”
The UH-1H helicopter, globally known as the legendary Huey, came in the market with the name Bell Model 204 in 1956 and inaugurated the era of jet engines for the US Army. It went into active service as U-1( later UH-1) Iroquois and appeared for the first time in Vietnam in 1963. It was a 9-seater multi-role helicopter, which radically changed the data and operations planning, attributing a new sense to the 3rd dimension of the battlefield, executing MedEvacs, air assaults, massive transports of small echelons, without the use of paratroopers, as well as close support missions. In 1963, the UH- 1D( Model 205) was delivered, with a longer fuselage for the transport of 12 soldiers, apart from the
crew, improved engines and range, as well as the capability to carry an assortment of weapon systems( 20mm gun, 2.75-inch rockets and anti-tank missiles). The MedEvac UH-1V version can transport 6 stretchers and a medic. The UH-1H( Model 205 A-1) was first produced in 1967 and is similar to the UH-1D with an improved engine for enhancement of transport capability. The UH-1H helicopters started being delivered to the Hellenic Army Aviation gradually from 1969 to 1981. Despite their advanced age, providing a great degree of reliability and security, they constitute the main asset of the Army Aviation, being active in all its Units.
