Uptown Yerevan

Tour 2:

2.4 Square of France

Walking down through the Mashtots Avenue you will come up to the Square of France which is a gorgeous site in the heart of Yerevan between the Opera building and the Cascade. The square was named France Square in 2006 during the official visit of the president of France Jacques Chirac (1995-2007). Five years later Jules Bastien’s statue by famous French sculpture Auguste Rodin (1840-1917) was unveiled on France Square by Armenian and French Presidents Serzh Sargsyan and Nicolas Sarkozy (2007-2012). Here also starts and ends “Yerevan city tour” – the tourist route program of Yerevan. This is where the famous Mashtots and Bagramyan avenues intersect with the Sayat Nova Street. There are numerous cafes around the square and the Opera building where you can enjoy Armenian beer and ice cream.
