AV News 178 - November 2009 Members making AV now just bring a CD, DVD or USB memory stick to the clubrooms for showing their AVs on our standard digital projection setup. Importantly, we are now supporting both PC and Apple Mac AV productions. The AV Group now meets the first Wednesday of each month excluding January and holds a 'NO RULES' AV competition when a 5th Monday occurs in any month. This means that 4 to 5 AV competitions are held per year. This year we have had between 7 and 15 AV entries in each of our 5th Monday competitions. The unique aspect of this competition is there is one rule 'that there are no rules' and provided it can be shown on the club's computer projector system it will be evaluated by those present on the night using the 'Clap-O-Meter' principal. Bringing friends and relatives to clap louder and longer for your AV is all part of the nights entertainment. We have had screen savers shown along with 'no image' AVs on a range of software that defies what traditional AV makers consider as acceptable. But it does give everybody a chance to 'show and tell' and is a great way of starting out with any inspiration. Many AVs in the competition are incomplete and are just for reaction and talking about. Very inspiring for those starting out in the Audio Visual craft. Seeing and hearing, for the first time, your AV shown in a large room on a big screen often shows up short comings and leads to revising parts of the production, most notably audio quality and text sizing and transition effects. ProShowGOLD software is currently the most popular AV production software in our Club and also extremely popular with other AV makers in other Camera Clubs. Recently we held a very successful 1-day introduction workshop for our members starting out with Photodex's ProShowGOLD AV software. An outline of the course and its content is still on our website http://www.melbournephoto.org.au/ audio-visual-group/proshow-goldthe-basics-for-making-avs.html Page 48
