At the ideas stage of your production this also means evaluating the viability of your idea - would it sustain a 5, 10 or 15 minute programme? NOTE To look over the fence at the film industry (both documentary and feature films), it's no accident that the most successful directors in the film industry are not cinematographers. Virtually all of them started off as film editors where they learnt their essential skills in the proverbial 'Cutting Room.' In contrast, from what I've seen among club AV-ers, many of them still see themselves primarily as Photographers. Furthermore, traditionally the soundtrack has all too frequently been regarded almost as an optional 'Add On' - producers
