Creating a Club AV
Edwin Bailey LIPF
"What", I hear you say, "A club AV, impossible. How would you all agree?" What
topic, what shots, what music, whose script, whose voice, so much to disagree
about. But just a minute, there's so much to agree about it can be fun. Just like
our experience at Shannon AV Group.
Here's our process, first we must have a topic. Let's have a camera club outing
to… we settled on Killarney National Park in Kerry. We must have a script before
we set out. Important to know what we have to shoot when we get there. With a
little arm twisting I agree to write the script. The 3rd draft is acceptable to all.
Killarney National Park is over 10,000 hectares so we must have designated
areas to shoot in order to cover all the interesting locations. Sheamus, will you do
Muckross Abbey, Carmel, you might get Torc Waterfall and Noel, will you go to
Aghadoe Heights to capture The McGillycuddy Reeks. I will shoot Muckross
House and the Gardens, the central
attraction of the park. Harry and Dolores,
you might do something on the farm. Tell
you what, we will all go to the farm and
enjoy the cottages and animals which are
presented in 1940's style Ireland before
electrification. A folk farm as it were. We
mustn't forget Ross Castle or Dinis Cottage
and the meeting of the waters, and plenty
of boats on the beautiful lakes. So much to
capture, and such a short amount of time,
and ohhh!!! the weather. Can't do much
about that, but watch the forecast. The
outing went well with six photographers
and some friends coming along. All shots
were put on disk and handed to Sheamus
who volunteered to process the images
and put the sequence together. This part
is probably the most time consuming.
When complete the sequence was handed to Harry who chose the music.
Harry also recorded the voice over which was spoken by Yvonne, from the script
previously prepared. Having completed the sound track and assuring members
that all was perfect, Harry passed
