AV News 183 - February 2011

Welcome to this, the first edition of the
New Year. The last few months feel to
have flown by and, despite the best
efforts of the weather, quite a number
of AV events have taken place.
The
Great
Northern
Festival
weekend, held at the beginning of
December caused a great deal of worry
to the organisers (Page 23) when large
amounts of snow paralysed the country.
Despite this, two hardy soles travelled
down from Aberdeen to attend and a
further two made it from the Netherlands. In fact they decided to use the trip for
some sightseeing...and on the way travelled to view the Angel of the North!!
So what else has been happening - well I can see that I - John - will now
have to book an appointment to discuss the magazine and its contents with
Jill as she has joined the photographic hierarchy and become the President
of the North Wales Photographic Association (NWPA). I told her she should
have stepped backwards faster......! However I am sure that all the AV
community will join me in congratulating her on receiving this honour. One of
her first official duties as President will be to welcome the attendees to the
IAC Geoffrey Round International, which is to be held in the Community
Centre at Capel Curig on the 12th and 13th of March. If you are quick you will
just have time to enter this competition as the closing date is the 7th February.
Other competition deadlines are Adelaide AVFest 4th Feb.; Bridgend 5 to 8
13th Feb. and MFFC South Africa 1st March. No doubt there will be lots of
local competitions also, so get your entries in and Good Luck with your
sequences.
You will note that theTime Based Media Working Group have made their
initial recommendations. These are reported, as requested in their entirety
with no editorial changes, on page 17. There has been a great deal of
discussion on these matters within our AV community and beyond and maybe
the time is now right for people to make their opinions known via Carol Agar
(and also to our AV representative within the TBM Group, Robert Albright)
prior to their next meeting in late Febraury.
At the start of this New Year may we ask that you make a resolution to
please send in items for the next issue of the magazine as soon as you can.
Thank you to all those who did so for this issue, in fact we have received so
many that we were 6 pages over our allotted amount. We have included all
the 'time sensitive' material into the magazine and will of course ensure that
those we have held back appear in the next issue.
Please also let us know if you would like any changes to the website, is
there any other information you would like to see there?
Any comments, good or bad, will be considered.
