AV News 183 - February 2011 Edgar then proceeded to discuss voice recording, script writing and recording into the computer, giving invaluable tips on obtaining the desired result, using a volunteer from the audience (I knew I shouldn't have scratched my ear) to demonstrate personal recording with one of the latest digital hand recorders now available, with the advice - 'know the audience, practice reading and speaking with personal touches, get a second opinion on result'. He demonstrated his personal recording equipment accompanied by on-screen examples of manipulating sound tracks and merging final tracks. The next sequence 'A Devon Delight', a glimpse of Sidmouth, extolled the virtues of the Connaught Gardens, the history of the town and the Jurassic Coast to demonstrate the contribution of appropriate sound recordings to a sequence, to the gentle background piano accompaniment of Erik Satie's Gymnopodies. Edgar displayed techniques of adding music to images and multiple sound effects with a humorous piece showing cottages in the early morning with a cock crowing, dog barking, cows lowing, crows cawing and geese cackling then finally two shotgun blasts which left a conclusion to the audience. His final piece of the day won the Best Sound Track Award at the 2008 International AV Competition at Cirencester - 'To Pessimists-Way Out', a poignant account of the formation of Talbot House, established in Belgium during the First World War as a 'haven of true peace' for troops, that later gained fame as Toc H. During the afternoon Linda and Edgar commented on each of the seven Attendee's Sequences with helpful observations and tips and for which they were thanked with rapturous applause. The membership were enthralled and inspired by the couple's presentation which encouraged both beginners and experienced alike and hoped they would pay a welcome return visit.
