AV News 177 - August 2009 Mothing; was put together to incorporate a voice-over. The images were all taken in the back garden (apart from Tom and the internet images) and the music chosen seemed extremely appropriate. The subject matter is also something different and therefore interesting for the viewer. The moth images were all taken using a 100 mm Macro lens with a 12 mm extension tube and the Canon MT24 twin head, lens mounted flash unit (for those interested in these things!). The judges liked this sequence but added the comment that they thought the ending could be improved. Ripon Cathedral; is a wonderful place to take photographs. There is a peace and serenity in many of our old churches and plenty of photographic opportunities. The majority of the images were taken in one day with a couple more visits required to get some of those missed opportunities. The first image of the exterior slowly zooms in to draw the viewer into the sequence and the last image slowly zooms out as we leave this fine historical place. The transition from the exterior to the interior uses a third image again to draw the viewer into the Cathedral. There must be many opportunities around the UK for this type of sequence. Visiting the International AV Festival and various other events has been an encouragement to progress in my AV work. The distinctions are a way of working towards a goal, improving my photography, post image processing and expanding my imagination. I would encourage anyone to join the RPS, participate in the events and work towards the distinctions. My next goal - ARPS! Why not come along and meet some great like minded people. See you there? We also congratulate the other successful applicants from November. The next RPS Distinctions Panel will be held on Saturday 3rd October at Bath. Prospective applicants are advised to read carefully all Tony Collinson LRPS, sections of The Guidelines to Bryan Stubbs ARPS and David Firth LRPS, David Morland LRPS Distinctions, available via the RPS website, particularly the General section including who is allowed to attend.
