AV News 196 - May 2014
The judge this year was Jim
McCormick DPAGB from the
Northern AV Group at Snod's
Edge, and he awarded the
Ralph Smith trophy to the
Club
President,
Tony
Collinson LRPS, for his moving
sequence, 'Greater Love',
chronicling the outbreak of
the Plague which took place
in the Derbyshire village of
Eyam in the 17th Century.
The audience vote was
won by David Firth LRPS for his sequence, 'The Spirit of '42', based on images
of a 1940s themed event set with suitable humour to appropriate music and
sounds of the period. The trophy based on the audience vote for the sequence
from a newcomer was won by Phill Brady for his sequence recounting the
replacement of a bridge over the A1M close to his home in Wetherby backed by
the familiar march from Thunderbirds.
Next year will obviously mark an important milestone for the Leeds AV Group
with the 40th show at St Chad's Centre in March 2015. More information about
the group, which is always delighted to welcome new members, can be found
on its web site, www.leedsavgroup.co.uk and please feel able to contact us for
more information. Finally the committee of LAVG would like to thank all those
who support us and our show, the many visiting judges over the years, and most
of all the members of the group who work so hard to produce sequences and
set up the hall for the show.

The annual Wilmslow Guild Fiesta public show took place this year on the 28th
February and 1st March. Each year we hold the Fiesta, primarily for
entertainment, but additionally to help publicise the art of AV.
This year we did something a little different - we showed again some of the
sequences that audiences have voted as their favourites over the last 20 years.
This year's audience enjoyed a great many memorable digital sequences
including: 'The Light' and 'This is a Town' by Colin Balls, 'Idwal Bach' by Ron
Davies, 'Voices from the Past' by Suzanne Gregory and 'The Baby' by
Howard Gregory. Howard Bagshaw's 'Migrant Mother' was well received, as
was 'Special' - the excellent award winning sequence made with Jeff Mansell.
The 'Colour Thief' by Jill K Bunting showed how much it was ahead of its time
with its superb animation and the audience was moved by last year's winner, 'A
Very Special Job' by Sheila Davies. Humour was provided by Harry Bosworth's
'Consortium', 'The Messiah' by John Smith and the tantilisingly titled 'Italian
Beds and Belgian Balls' by Keith Fisher. The winner of the audience vote this
year was.. ....well you will just have to come along next year to find out!
