AV News 193 - August 2013
Keith hates music fadeouts. He showed how he selects the last few bars of a
piece of music to round off a sequence. His transitions are not just tricksy
ways of getting from A to B. Images blend to create wonderful collages and
visual metaphors.
I found Keith's sequences simply jaw-dropping. He loves bleak and marginal
places. Troon seashore and a New Zealand beach in 'Michael' captured the
fearful grandeur of the ocean. He never loses sight of the human scale. He
moved me to edge of tears with his tribute to a dead friend in 'Michael', but
here, as in all his sequences, there was a universality that every member of
the audience could relate to.
His secret? No great mystery, he claims. Just attention to detail and subtle
use of music.
In his vote of thanks Bryan Stubbs summed my own response. He described
Keith's sequences as beautifully crafted and thought-provoking. Hear hear.
I'll finish with a personal note of thanks to Bryan for organising a thoroughly
entertaining and inspiring day.
