AV Day in South Africa
Jeff Morris LRPS APSSA AFIAP
On 3rd November 2012 Irene Homes was abuzz with expectation as some
35 Audio Visual workers from Pretoria, Johannesburg, Ladybrand and
Vanderbijlpark gathered for a meeting of the Pretoria Audio Visual Club.
After some introductions, our guest Howard Bagshaw ARPS MPAGB from
the UK gave instructive comments on some of the 27 AVs that had been
entered in the club's annual competition. Lots of encouragement was given
to beginners and advanced workers alike. This was followed by tips,
suggestions and advice on all aspects of making sequences.
Howard showed a selection of his AVs, each one to illustrate a point or
two, which he highlighted before or after showing it. Many people
commented on how readily he is able to share his knowledge and get down
to our (low) level of understanding of the subject.
The winner of the advanced section was Anneke Oerlemans with 'A
boys dream'. First place in the beginners section was shared by 'A miracle
of flowers' by Eric Thorburn and ‘PAMPOEN - Steve Hofmeyr' by Len
Cousins.
Reg Ansell presented Howard with his PSSA gold medal awarded for
'Special' in the 3rd MFFC AV Salon. Howard is clearly at home with the
subject and fielded all questions with ease. His enthusiasm for the hobby
was infectious and we all left with great intentions to produce new and better
AVs. The best way to illustrate the success of the day is to quote from
comments received afterwards from participants.
Here are some of them:-

ours. Reg and Amy Ansell.

I had a fantastic time many thanks to you and your team. Howard has
a great way of sharing his knowledge, emphasis on sharing, and I came
away with a lot of new information to inspire me to go further with AV
creation. Tom Bayford
