AV News 186 - November 2011
Bob - A lot of amiable chatting went on during the refreshment breaks. That
was when I found myself in a queue next to John Smith; now you know why
I am writing this! I also met attendees from Ireland and South Africa as well
as managing to set up a speaker for next year's EMAVG programme.
Sue & John - At the tea break we were fortunate in joining the queue
alongside Jill Bunting whose enthusiasm was infectious. Jill gave us some
useful advice and words of encouragement.
Our only regret was that we could only spend the Saturday afternoon
there. I had purchased PicturesToExe a few weeks ago and have created a
few sequences in order to find my way around the software and explore its
possibilities. The presentations we saw at the NAVC served two purposes;
firstly I was on the right lines and secondly I had a long way to go!
As newcomers to the world of AV competitions we came away both
encouraged and inspired to produce more AVs and we will certainly attend
the NAVC and similar events in the future.
Bob - So what did I gain from my day? Well all the AVers I met were friendly
and willing to help, I can put more faces to names, there were lots of super
images, ingenious stories, clever selection of music and inspirational AVs.
Will I ever be able to match any of it? Perhaps in two year's time I will be
up to demonstrating my efforts.

When I was encouraged to display on the big
stage at the National Audio Visual Champions
this year by fellow members at my local AV
Group I was excited to say the least.
Like all entrants I sent off my application form
along with the CD then waited with intrepidation
for the moment, would I be accepted or not.
With just over a month to go before the
championship the email arrived to inform me I'd
been accepted. Glancing up and down the
listing I found myself listed for the Sunday I
quickly reached for my diary and made the entry.
As the sun rose on the 19th September, YES I was anxious, YES I was
excited. Eager to depart from my sons in Sheffield I headed south down the
M1 Motorway, along with my family in support, it helped the one hour journey
to Nottingham.
Arriving at the Sutton Bonington campus at 8:30 it filled me with great
expectations of the day ahead, people were already milling around and I met
up with familiar faces and recognisable names on the NAVC badges, as I
made my way to the great hall people are enjoying breakfast in the restaurant.
