AV News 186 - November 2011
The first session started by
welcoming the three judges.
Chairman Ian Bateman
FRPS
MPAGB,
Howard
Bagshaw ARPS DPAGB and
Maureen Albright ARPS
DPAGB.
They each gave us some
idea of what they were
looking for, by way of video
clips in the introductory
sequence,
produced by
Linda and Edgar Gibbs,
which I thought a nice
touch.
As a relative newcomer to the AV field it was encouraging for me to see that
others were doing things that I had been warned against (white borders spring
to mind). At the other end of the scale were some well crafted sequences,
several of which were quite moving. For the life of me I cannot fathom out what
it was about 'Tony Bramham' that should have such an effect.
At lunch two of the judges,
Maureen and Ian, came to
sit at our table.
Topics of conversation
included:Facebook,
YouTube, the evil of white
borders and the Heimlich
hug. The latter topic
emerged
after
Ian
successfully sprang in to
action to assist a choking
delegate.
Sue & John - We arrived just before the Saturday afternoon session
commenced, were made very welcome, handed a programme and the session
began. All the sequences were shown in a very professional manner, with just
a short break between each one. We were impressed with the wide variety of
subjects covered in many different styles. There was nothing too modern or
obscure, in fact many quite conventional styles and moments of nostalgia.
Any available animation and transition effects were, in our untrained eyes,
used subtly and in keeping with the subjects. We saw some great photographs,
accompanied by appropriate music and, at times, some informative
commentaries.
