A useful observation on the continuity of image format, was that, if 'portrait' images are to be included, they should be grouped as a set within a predominantly 'landscape' sequence. Authors were alerted to keeping horizons horizontal, especially in the case of water. Everyone was encouraged to see as much as possible of other people's work, so that they could gather ideas and inspiration, in addition to learning from the mistakes of others as well as their own. At the end of the day each judge showed the audience one of their sequences, to give us an idea of the kind of sequences they like to create. There was much appreciation for the organizers and the judges and it was wholeheartedly agreed to repeat the event in 2010. Kent County AV Competition B o b B ris le y & N e v ille M a rs h Bob: Folkestone Camera Club hosted the now annual, Kent County Photographic Association's Annual Audio Visual Competition for the second year running. From experience gained last year we expected about 100 attendees. Finding a suitable venue at an affordable cost was resolved when we found the Tower Theatre - a one time garrison church on Shorncliffe Military Camp - which was available and Folkestone Town Council once again agreed to some funding. Neville: Glorious sunshine is the usual weather on AV days, causing extra black-out problems but that was not the case on Saturday 14 November. Gale force winds and squally showers throughout the day meant that there would have been no problems with sunlight creeping through gaps in the black-out. It was ironical therefore that the competition was held in a theatre, converted from a redundant church, with very comfortable plush tiered seating and not a window in the auditorium! Page 43
