SPF AV Day, Scotland
B ill B a rr
Our annual AV Day north of the border took place on 11th Oct at Airdrie.
Audio Visual does not attract the attention of camera club members quite as
much here as it does south of the border. Albeit we keep hearing that more
people are dabbling in it since going digital, but that just might be the
caseā¦.they are dabbling!
As AV Secretary for the Scottish Photographic Federation I secured in
2008 & 2009 some well kent faces within the AV circles. In 2008 Keith & Kate
Brown were our guest speakers and in 2009 Jill Bunting & John Smith
came to visit us.
So our day began like any other AV day with
the usual tea/coffee & biscuits around 9.30am
for the audience, while a group of SPF
committee members were getting the
projection and sound system set up and
blanking out all unnecessary daylight ready for
Jill & John's presentation. In turn each
imparted lots of information, hints & tips about
Audacity and PTE in their own inimitable style.
Jill and John covered both the morning and
afternoon sessions, so a lot of preparation
work was required. Finishing the day off with
the showing of their own sequences including
their award winning ones.
I had also arranged for them to do a show at East Kilbride camera club on
Monday evening. It was not all work and no play, as the AV Day was on the
Sunday it meant Jill
& John had all day
Monday free to go
sightseeing.
As it turned out to
be a nice autumn
day I took them to
see the Falkirk
Wheel (check the
internet as I don't
have enough space
here to tell you
about it) the worlds
only rotating canal
boatlift. They both
came away with some good shots that day, so I think we can look out for The
Wheel appearing in one of John's humorous sequences in the future. Jill will
of course come up with something a bit more sensible. (Maybe!!!)
