AV News 184 - May 2011
On the previous night, Colin showed a selection of his sequences including 'This
is a town', 'Runshall Lane, 1971', 'The Evolution of the Magic Lantern', 'The Last
Great Steam Show on Earth' - (how I haven't joined in in singing 'Jesus loves
me' yet, I don't know - I still find this twist in the sequence amazing!) and of
course 'Tony Brabham'.
The festival concludes with the annual battle of federations when the
sequence just declared the winner competes with the winner of the IPF's audio
visual festival, the previous October, judged by Linda & Edgar Gibbs - 'The
Stolen Child' by Noel Mahony, which also won the audience vote on the day.
Colin spent a long time at the end of a long day, keeping Raymond and Noel,
never mind the rest of the audience - in suspense - as he weighed up both
sequences and then - and this is where the first time comes in - he declared it a
draw! So both won!
I think the AV communities of both north and south of the border could tell the
politicians and others how to live in love and harmony with each other! There
were hugs from the north to the south and vice versa! So, in cross-border
co-operation, Colin did not make a 'balls of it' and I had a 'ball' as usual.

We held our Annual AV club competition at the beginning of February 2011.
The rules are that a sequence can be 5 minutes or less in duration but must be
no longer. It may be set to music or have music and a recorded voice.
We had 17 entries which made for an excellent club evening. There was
great variety, three having recorded voice. Each person in the room on the
night was given a voting paper on which they had to indicate their vote for the
AV they considered to be the best.
In the end we had a tie - 'Winter' by Keith Fanshawe and 'A Taste of
Scotland' by Jean Greenwood. They each received a small prize.
