Great Yorkshire AV Day
Madge Gibson
The Great Yorkshire AV Day, on Sunday 20th February,
definitely lived up to its name. I've been to a few now
and have always come away inspired. What I like is AV
workers been able to show their work to others and
hopefully get some good advice.
For someone new-ish to AV, a day like these shows
the standard to which we need to aim for. Today was no
exception; it was a brilliant day, filled with good humour
in a relaxed atmosphere, what could be better on a cold,
miserable February day. At least we didn't get the snow
like last year.
The morning session started as normal with
sequences from the audience, Keith Scott asking
the entrant to say a few words before the
sequence was played. This was a good idea as
you could put a face to the work been viewed.
That was if it wasn't yours, my sequence was on
third and I almost missed the first two sequences
wondering what to say. I didn't say much!
The morning went well and the highlight for me was Jill K. Bunting and John
Smith's presentation, 'Little Ted's Big Adventure' and John's 'Night Caller'. The
ideas, photography, use of PTE and above all the humour were just perfect.
After the lunch break we
were treated to Howard
Bagshaw. It was a treat, not
to just view his wide range of
presentations but to have an
insight as to how they were
created. The day went too
quickly and I for one went
away with ideas and hopes
for new sequences.
I went to bed that night still buzzing from the day, I awoke the following
morning at 5am; I had my start for a new sequence. Up I got, must remember
to keep a pad and pencil at the side of the bed and there I was jotting down
notes. So I had the start, but what about the middle, end, pictures, music,
sound effects etc. etc. It was getting very serious, so I took another decisive
step and went back to sleep.
Thanks again everyone for your hard work in putting these days on. Looking
forward to the next one which is planned for 20th November.
