AV News 184 - May 2011
Colin Balls' sequence, 'Tony Bramham', narrated in the first person allowed
us to get to know this talented artist and his work.
And last, but certainly not least, we had humour. There was 'Quality Shoes'
by Dave Owens (of Kirkby PS), a sequence of images of shoes, shoes and
more shoes, against a catchy background song about .......... yes, that's right!
Shoes! And then there was the tongue-in-cheek, 'Night Caller' by John
Smith, a sequence with implicit menace to begin with but ending with a twist
we all recognise. 'A Journey', by Michael Oates (Wilmslow Guild AV Group)
was another sequence with more unexpected twists, that caught and made
us laugh, as we travelled through space and time to the moon. Stealing the
show was 'Little Ted's Big Adventure' by Jill K. Bunting & John Smith
(Wilmslow Guild AV Group). This sequence had us all laughing as 'Little Ted'
went off on his holidays and found more than he bargained for.
Just when we thought it was all over we had an extra, fun AV about Awards
and how tasty some of them can be! Chocolate medals masquerading as
gold and the Jackass trophy which cost the author a broken tooth and left him
with the problem of a rather 'nibbled' looking trophy, were all in there!
When all the sequences had been projected we had a short break whilst
the final decisions were made.
Julia - All too soon, it was time for the results. The top three entries were well
deserved winners and had really stood out in a day full of wonderful
sequences, with each being superb in both technique and content.
As for me, I was fortunate enough to be awarded the Jackass Trophy for
first time entrant
