In late June AV Group members with an email
address registered at RPS headquarters should
have received an advisory message regarding
election of officers at our forthcoming AGM.
Committee members at each AGM stand down from
whatever office they hold, whereby nominees for the
various committee posts are then either elected or
re-elected. It is an RPS requirement (Regulations
and Guidelines for Special Interest Groups) that
each Group shall have three officers, a Chairman,
Secretary and Treasurer who must be members of
the Society. Without such officers the Group would
not be constitutional and this could have dire
consequences. This forthcoming AGM requires fresh faces in each of those
positions, therefore be advised that your AV Group is earnestly looking for
volunteers to be nominated for election onto the committee to maintain the
smooth running of this long established Group.
There will also be positions available on two very important Festival
committees i.e. the National AV Festival which is a group sponsored event,
and the RPS International AV Festival. Both of these Festivals are elements
of your AV Group activities - they require the technical teams, organisers,
and administrators to maintain the continuation of our nationally and
internationally renowned and prestigious events within the AV calendar.
On the front cover of this edition you will notice a changed RPS logo. This
is to conform to the new Society Brand Guidelines, effectively simplifying and
modernising the logo layout and removing the more complex coat of arms.
Members may have already noticed similar changes on the cover of 'The
Journal' or other Group magazines and documents. We are actually a little
late applying this new logo to AV News, it should have appeared on the front
cover of our previous issue. Please don't blame our fine Editors for this error,
blame me. Whilst the new logo is simple and smart, I actually miss the
prestigious coat of arms, which seemed to give strength and meaning to the
word 'Royal' within our Society title. The new logo will now be found on
everything relating to the Society including publications, the main web pages,
special interest group pages, and sub groups such as our National and
International Festival pages.
The mention of festivals serves as a reminder that the 21st International
Festival will be held from Friday 19th to Sunday 21st September 2014, at the
Royal Agricultural University in Cirencester. If you wish to participate or gain
more information about this prestigious festival check out the web pages at:
http://www.rpsinternational.org.uk
The next time you read Chairman's Chatter page within AV News it will be
written by your new Chairman, almost certainly bringing a breath of fresh air
and intelligence to these pages.
