Vic Hainsworth! Who? Never heard of him? If you have come onto the AV
scene in the past 10 years or so, you may not have heard the name, but I have
my Associateship in AV and did spend over 20 years involved with both the
National and the International Festivals.
Anyway, enough about me and onto the purpose of this article. Saturday,
20th March was the 18th East Anglian Audio-Visual Competition, held this
year in a new venue in Margaretting, just off the A12. Although this was the
18th one run by the Essex AV Group, I started this competition in 1982 and ran
it with my club, Colchester P.S., for 10 years until 1992, when the Essex AV
Group took over the event. I am very pleased it is still encouraging new people
to get involved and enter.
Many reports often commence with, 'We arrived bright and early, having had
a pleasant journey in the spring sunshine'. Wrong, it was pouring down with rain
during our journey, so we were glad to get into the comfortable hall. Upon
arrival, we were met by a welcome smile and "give us yer money" from the
efficient Lin Wilcox!
This was the first East Anglian AV Competition, they had run at this
particular venue, although a smaller event, run last November, had given them
a feel for the place. It is much smaller than the hall at Rayleigh, so it did get
quite warm throughout the day, something that may have to be addressed for
the next event. The blackout was good and having the screen on a stage,
meant all the audience had a reasonable view, unless you were sat behind
someone particularly tall!
