AV News 180 - May 2010 Great Yorkshire AV Day R ita J o y & J o h n S h e p h e rd ARPS Rita - The day started with a fresh fall of snow for the Yorkshire area, which delayed and even caused some members to miss the day! These days are held in the National Media Museum in Bradford, an excellent venue if you have never visited. John - On awakening on the great day I immediately noticed the bedroom is awash with white light, panic sets in, I'm late! A leap to open the curtains reveals, you guessed it, snow yet more snow, a thick blanket covers the entire area. Decision what do I do, firstly rush down stairs power up the computer, check the weather forecast in the Bradford area, York area one star (snowflake) we have a good 25mm (1inch) Bradford area two stars. Blast what do I do, I've been looking forward to the Great Yorkshire AV Sunday. No! I'm not going to be put off by a couple of inches of snow, normal journey time would be just under the hour, better give myself some breathing space and decide to leave at 8.30am. Setting off I quickly realise that the situation is not very promising, conditions and timings on a Sunday morning means little traffic has ventured out around the York Southern by-pass. Progress is slow, the snow seems to be even deeper and no sign of any gritting, approaching the A64/ M1 intersection the traffic flow has ceased, ahead I see a stationery HGV on the slip road (aptly named) weather conditions have deteriorated, decision time again, better stay in Leeds lane and abandon the day, turn around at the roundabout ahead. As I progress along the road, the cause of the hold-up becomes clear, top of the range, very powerful bit of gear that normally likes to leave us oldies standing at the traffic light ΜΈ
