AV News 182 - November 2010
Suzanne then took the floor and talked about the production of a sequence and
how a bit of attention to detail makes all the difference. She illustrated this by
showing her sequence about St Cuthbert. She also demonstrated how she
manipulates her images in Photoshop, then once transferred to PicturesToExe
and a transition applied, each image blends smoothly into another. She finished
with another of her fine sequences, bringing to life the letters of people living
within a Roman fort in Britain. Howard finished off the day showing us how he
compiled the soundtrack for his sequence '1 in 3.7', which contains no music
only sound effects and looks very complex. I saw lots of people picking up the
leaflets Howard produces and buying his CD's.
We started at 10.00am and finished just after 5.00pm. The audience set off
home after an enjoyable, entertaining and informative day. So I think it's safe to
say that a good day was had by all.
Howard now has a new CD 'Audible Photography' explaining the similarities
between Audio and Photographic processes. More details next issue. Eds
Late News from the Trenches
Vernon Barlow
Well as one age's memory lapses occur, so I must apologize to our esteemed
Editors and in particular to JS who back in March 2010 was the judge for our
annual AV competition. I promised him a report of the evening, so below is a
copy of the Report produced for our local newspaper by our news hound
Eileen A Craig.
Tuesday March 16th Prestwich Co-op Camera Club gathered for the Annual
Audio Visual Competition which was expertly judged by John Smith APAGB
CPAGB.
There were twelve entries for the competition. This was far more than in
previous years due to Vernon Barlow, our AV Group Leader, sparking
everyone's enthusiasm when he organized the Audio Visual Challenge of
interpreting the Amy Elizabeth poem. (See Issue 179, Page 50)
First place went to 'Two Cotswold Gardens'. The creative picture, script,
music and technical know how for this beautifully crafted trip round Snowhill
and Hidcote gardens are attributed to Jack Heathcote with commentary by
Eileen Craig. Second and third place were scooped by Janet Waterhouse.
Second was 'A Life on the Ocean Waves' excellent photographs giving us a
tour of the cruise ship accompanied by appropriate music and sound effects.
Third was 'Return to Sorrento', a personal story told in a captivating way.
Pictures of the town of Sorento accompanied by informative commentary,
ending with the purpose of the visit, the family wedding.
