AV News 189 - August 2012
Editorial
Jill K Bunting CPAGB & John Smith APAGB CPAGB
You may remember that in the May
issue we bravely asked the question
'are we providing what the readership
of 'AV News' actually wants?'
Well as you will see from reading
through our letter pages what came
back were requests for more technical
articles. This is fine and we are happy
to oblige but it does raise a couple of
problems.
At what level of expertise do we
pitch them at - the beginners looking
for help with the basics, getting to grips with the software and starting to make
sequences or the advanced workers wanting information on the latest
techniques? Secondly and more importantly, who is actually going to sit
down and write the articles for us? As usual we have another of the excellent
series of 'Photoshop' articles provided by Keith Scott and in this issue,
Howard Bagshaw has sprang to our aid with an article on the use of 'Video
in PTE'. In the absence of any other contributions it was down to the two of
us to write some more. Whilst we don't mind doing this occasionally it has
increased our workload ... so please if you can help out with some useful
hints and tips at any level - then we will be pleased to hear from you.
It is not often that this magazine manages to get a 'scoop'! Well one of our
subscribers and a moderator on the PTE forum, Peter Appleton, was invited
by Igor to participate in the alpha testing of PTE v7.5. Just in case that term
is unfamiliar to you, it is the stage before beta testing, when all the different
modules are brought together for the first time. Well we asked, and Igor kindly
agreed that Peter could write a short article on the new version! So to whet
your appetitite - the first snippets of information are to be found on Page 46.
We were very saddened to hear the news of the serious illness of Valerie
Rawlins. Val, a producer of award winning humerous sequences was
admitted to hospital in mid May and at the time of writing, remains in intensive
care. I am sure that you will join us in wishing her a speedy recovery back to
full health.
The first RPS Distinctions in Multimedia & Narrative have now been granted
and we congratulate the four sucessful applicants. An official report on the
proceedings can be found on Page 5 and following this, the highs and lows of
one of the sucessful applicants. You can view some of the submissions at:

We hope that you enjoy reading the magazine and the
technical articles are of help. We look forward to meeting
you at the Internationals in Cirencester.
