AV News 189 - August 2012
Whilst I certainly would not
cast
any
doubt
on
Malcolm's experience, I've
never encountered difficulty
with any file tried to date.
However I must stress
that I always use PC's and
Malcolm I believe uses Mac
equipment. If there is any
technical
difference
in
capabilities
of
DNG
between the two computer
systems then I would be
pleased to learn of it.
Perhaps other readers
may wish to share their own
experience and knowledge
of Adobe Digital Negative
Converter.
At the time of writing
Adobe DNG Converter is at version 6.7.0.339 (for PC), if you have an earlier
version then you may wish to update.
This information has enabled Malcolm to now successfully open his DNG files
in Photoshop. Eds
Audacity 2 - bug or feature?
Howard Bagshaw ARPS MPAGB
In trying to solve a problem for one of our group members we came across what
is probably a bug in the latest version (2.0.0) of Audacity.
Alongside each track are two buttons, one which allows you to select the track
to play solo, and a second button which allows that track to be muted. If you click
the mute button that track 'greys out' and doesn't play in the mix.
Unfortunately, if you click 'solo' and 'mute' then the track doesn't grey out and
plays in Audacity in the mix. However, if you export
the mix as an MP3 or WAV file then that
muted/soloed track is not included in the mix. So we
have the situation where a soundtrack sounds fine
played in Audacity, but the MP3 export is not right.
Moral, check those mute and solo buttons if you
have a problem with a missing track in your mix.
If in Edit/Preferences/Tracks you set Solo to be
'Simple' rather than the default of 'Standard' you can
only Solo or Mute a track and not do both. This then
avoids the problem and is possibly a more logical.
way of working. Eds
