AV News 189 - August 2012 The initial submissions achieved this, with successes in all 3 aspects of the Panel. The difficulty - particularly with a new panel, is in agreeing the different standards relevant to Licentiate, Associate and Fellowship. The initial Panel only considered submissions at Licentiate and Associate. Subsequent to the assessment, amendments to the method of assessing work have been agreed, in order to ensure equal value and consideration is given to Production / Sound / Imagery. The objective of attracting new types of work was achieved. One successful new Licentiate, with a submission of a series of advertising and promotional pieces, said that nowhere else was there recognition of this nature for that type of worker, and could in time attract a lot of submissions. Other work, produced for viewing on the Internet, is very different again, and the Panel needs to look at how this work can be viewed, rather than by traditional projection. AV was well represented. Digital technology gave it a new lease a few years ago, freeing it from the mass of equipment which was originally essential to any production. It can now take a further step forward, merging with different technologies in varying ways as boundaries further erode, viewed in new ways, available to wider audiences..." Do take the opportunity to see the successful work (this should be available at www.youtube.com/user/rpsdistinctions/videos) and consider what you might want to submit for a distinction. You can also view the submissions at http://www.rps.org/licentiateship/Multimedia-and-Narrative and http://www.rps.org/associateship/Multimedia-and-Narrative Please let us know what you think of these productions. Eds Multimedia & Narrative Assessment Raymond Hughes LRPS DPAGB Foolishly or perhaps arrogantly, I decided to apply for Associateship to the RPS Multimedia and Narrative Distinctions Assessments in May. Foolish or arrogant?, I had decided to jump LRPS. So, what to submit, we are all aware of the debate around the use of archive images in our sequences and my AV subject matter tends to require the inclusion of at least some. As I can't immediately provide permission for every image my choice for submission was vastly reduced. However I decided on 'The least of the Faithful', a story of St. Patrick I had used in my successful application for DAPGB a few years ago, and 'This Land' a timeline through the history of Ireland trying to explain the passion of the people for the country. It's been well received and took silver at this year's Northern Ireland AV Festival. Onto a disc, check the paperwork and off it went. Page 8
