August Issue - No Overloads
Malcolm & Jenny Gee
Howard, I was interested to read your article in AV NEWS about producing a
new lead to connect your external mono microphone to your Sony PCM M-10
recorder.
I purchased a PCM M-10 recorder in May this year, and we took it on holiday
with us to Switzerland in June. I found that it coped very well when recording
a ships horn (which had a very unpredictable sound level), when I set it up with
the LIMITER function enabled (detailed on pages 44-5 of the instruction
booklet), which automatically gives you 12db of attenuation before you can
expect some distortion to occur!
I was using a Sony ECM-MS907 stereo microphone, with the recorder REC
LEVEL set to 4 and the MIC SENS(ATT) set to HI. Obviously your modified
lead will give you 3db more attenuation, and also the advantage of having 2
separate mono recordings, however I do a lot of our recordings in stereo, and
thus find the available 12db of automatic attenuation is very handy!
Jenny says that she found your article in AV NEWS on 'Objects and
Animations' in PTE very useful, and is looking forward to parts 2,3......!!!!

August Issue - Music Angel Friendz
What a superb magazine this quarter (August). It arrived yesterday and
already I have received a Music Angel Friendz - and it is superb. Thank you
so much for the excellent article. I am going to order at least another one and
also one for the PC. Save me a lot of energy (at 81) lugging heavy speakers
and an amplifier. Have been waiting for something like this for years.
I also enjoyed Keith Scott's PS-Third Images,
