AV News 194 - November 2013 Australian Photographic Society AV Division Medallion This year the AV Medallion has been awarded for only the seventh time since its inception in 1999 thanks to the foresight and generosity of Doug and Barbara Mullins. Previous winners have been Eric Arch (1999), Kay Gordon (2000), Cherie Arch (2001), Brenda Amos (2002), Jim Amos (2003) and Doug & Barbara Mullins (2005). As set out in the APS Honours Manual the award requires ‘a contribution to excellence in Audio Visual photography’. In 2013 congratulations go to Robert John (Bob) Godfrey, Aspley Camera Club, Brisbane, who is a most worthy recipient. Bob has for decades been heavily involved in all facets of AV production and has graduated seamlessly to success in the digital environment. The announcement was made at the Australian Photographic Society annual conference (APSCON) held at Bunbury, Western Australia, in September. Peter Ryan Bob's citation is reproduced here. APS Audio Visual Medallion Robert John Godfrey Bob's involvement in Audio Visual extends over some 30 years. In 1983 he became audio visual officer for the State Government of Queensland, in particular the Health Department. Initially, Bob was involved in producing training programs for use on remote areas of Queensland and was later instrumental in establishing the Virtual School for the Queensland Education Department, allowing on-line education for students in remote areas. Lessons were produced as audio visuals for presentation. During Expo 88 much of the audio visual and photographic display in the Queensland Pavilion was done by Bob, who also built an interactive remotely controlled robot to greet and entertain visitors to the pavilion. The robot had a video monitor on its chest which ran an audio visual display. During the 1980's large multi-projector audio visuals were the most economical way to create promotional materials for displays and training and as a result Bob made two to three large programs a year for use at the Ekka, City Hall and other major displays.
