AV News Editors AGM Report 2013.
Jill K. Bunting CPAGB & John Smith APAGB CPAGB
We continue to publish the magazine four times a year and hope that the
AV Group membership and our subscribers enjoy reading what we publish.
We once again thank the AV Group Committee for all their support and hard
work that goes on behind the scenes. And especially Chairman Keith Scott
for his diligent proof reading of the Magazine each issue.
Mensa Printers continue to print the Magazine to a high standard on time
and post out the copies. They are always willing and helpful if we do
encounter any problems.
Our sincere thanks go to all those who kindly, and without too much
prodding, send us their news of forthcoming events and subsequently what
went on at them. It is always interesting to know what is going on around
the country and the various successes in the different competitions.
Thanks to the sterling work of the Group Treasurer, Keith Brown, we
have at last managed to offer subscription to the magazine by Direct Debit.
Whilst not as many as we hoped took up the offer - it should make things a
little easier at renewal. We hope that more subscribers will choose to pay
by this option next year.
It is however a little disappointing when someone advises us that they
wish to stop subscribing and our first action is to ask them why? The answer
that came back on a few occasions was that they felt the magazine had
become full of event reports and competition results to which they did not
have much interest. They wanted more technical articles on the latest
software developments, instructional articles covering different techniques
and in-depth stories on how certain award winning sequences were
constructed.
We took this on board - but then the immediate problem was - who was
going to write these articles and at what 'level' should they be pitched at?
We wrote a couple of articles ourselves for the next issue but we certainly
do not want to fall into the trap of ending up both writing and editing the
magazine. We were really getting disheartened when Howard Bagshaw
kindly offered to write us a couple of instructional articles - one on a novel
way to ensure that your recordings don't overload and a series of articles
on 'Objects & Animations' in PTE. He pitched these just right - and the
number of compliments that both he and we have received says this is the
way to go. But he can't do it on his own - so we need help. Please think
about writing something for us so that we can share your experiences with
others.
Our website continues to be well used and a 'one stop' source of
information on all AV matters. The hits come from around the world and we
are still surprised by some of the countries looking at the site. If you have a
website, please consider providing a Link to www.avnews.org.uk.
