Hawarden PS AV Competition
Paul Temple
During our 2012-13 Photographic Season it was agreed to hold an AV
Competition for our members to take part in. The subject would be Open. As
for the Syllabus for that season we invited two speakers on the subject of AV.
Our first Speaker was John Butler who showed us various examples of his
work and explained several techniques, including the use of sound. Our
second Speaker was Jill K. Bunting who introduced us to the use of AV and
showed us several examples of her work.
We arranged for our AV Competition to be at the end of our Season and
invited John Butler to be our judge for the evening. On the selected evening
we were pleased to receive 13 entries for this competition. The entries were
projected for the judge on the night and were judged on the following criteria:
Use of music; Technical ability; Pace of scenes; Clarity of entry; Picture
quality; Sound/ Picture making and finally the Wow Factor.
The judge said that the
standard of entries was
good and the winning entry
was
entitled
‘In
my
Liverpool Home’ and was
from Richard Todd with an
overall total of 45 marks out
of a maximum of 50. This
AV was, as the title
suggests, filmed in Liverpool
to the background music of
‘In my Liverpool home’.
The idea of the AV came about from Richard's love of Liverpool. He was
born and raised there and visits often to photograph the waterfront,
cathedrals and other architecture - old and new.
The choice of music was very relevant as he is a proud ‘Scouser’ and the
locations and sights he likes to photograph are mentioned in the lyrics of the
song by the' Spinners', a Liverpool group.
